For Aug 29, 20121st Trimester we will focus on:
Topic
P.E. Rules, expectations and procedures
School and playground rules; including kickball, 4 square and tetherball-
Rhythm with WII Fit, Bench Aerobics,
Locomotor movements; hop, skip, leap, jog, walk, gallop, slide, jump
Fitness and the components
Manipulative skills: dibbling with hands and feet, throwing and catching, striking with hands, paddle and/or racket
What to Practice
Review expectations and consequences with your child
Review rules of kickball for assessment
Skipping and leaping for assessment
30 sit ups and 10 push-ups nightly
Aerobic activity 20-30 minutes daily
Dribble a ball with hands and feet and play throw and catch, practice striking
2nd Trimester we will focus on:
Manipulative skills; throwing and catching
Rhythm and Dance; Square Dance
Fitness and the components
What to Practice
Balance and coordination
30 sit ups and 10 push-ups nightly
Aerobic activity 20-30 minutes daily
Throw and catch a football/beanbag
3rd Trimester we will focus on:
Manipulative skills; throwing and catching
Striking/Softball skills
Volleyball/bump, set, spike, and serve
Rhythm; Lummi Sticks
Fitness and the components
Weight transfer, body parts
What to Practice
30 sit ups and 10 push-ups nightly
Aerobic activity 20-30 minutes daily
Striking/Softball skills
throwing and catching with a smaller ball
and/or mitt
Weight transfer
All P.E. classes will include fitness, sportsmanship, participation, teamwork, and safety
Plans are subject to change due to inclement weather.

Grading:
Using physical education standards (or essential learnings, benchmarks, performance indicators) for grading is known as "standards-based" grading, and it is endorsed by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). One of the NBPTS standards for physical educators states: "Accomplished physical education teachers design assessment strategies appropriate to the curriculum and to the learner. They use assessment results to provide feedback to the learner, to report student progress, and to shape instruction" (NBPTS, 1999).

1. Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
2. Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

4. Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
5. Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity
6. Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expressions and/or social interaction.
