  • UNLV New Housing Scholarship

    For Nov 18, 2011

I just wanted to send over some new information regarding a housing scholarship for CCSD students!  The scholarship is just being set up, but it will provide local students with a small fund toward living on campus.

Campus Housing Scholarship for CCSD Students:
Available for 250 CCSD students (first come, first served) with an unweighted 3.5+ cumulative GPA.  The students must be entering UNLV in fall 2012.  Those students who apply to live in housing (and do) will receive a $2000 scholarship good for one year, to be applied to their housing charges.  The scholarship should be automatic, and the first 250 students to apply for admission, campus housing, and FAFSA should receive the scholarship.  I can let you know of any updates as time goes on as well.

For any students who have questions regarding Campus Housing, here is their contact information:

  • Where can I learn more about scholarships?????????

    For Sep 29, 2011

www.fastweb.com is a FREE search engine which will send scholarships to your email on a weekly basis.

Financial aid scams are a hot topic these days. DON'T PAY TO FILL OUT THE FAFSA. The FAFSA is a free application. Fill it out at www.fafsa.gov - other sites will charge you.

Scholarships should not require any fees, and offer no guarantees. Be careful of the many scholarship scams that are more than willing to take your money.

  • Federal Student Aid PIN - EVERYONE NEEDS ONE!!!!!!

    For Sep 29, 2011

Your PIN is your personal identification number you use when you visit certain US Dept of Education websites. When you type in your PIN, you are saying either "Yes, it's really me - please show me the personal information about me on this site" or "Please accept my PIN as my signature on this online form."

Go to www.pin.ed.gov and provide a few pieces of information.

  • William "Bill" Endow Scholarship Orientation

    For Oct 26, 2011

    Asian Chamber of Commerce
    William “Bill” Endow Scholarship Orientation

Bill Endow was a tireless humanitarian dedicated to education and community service. After his untimely death in 1998 at age 61, it was felt that something should be done, not only to honor him, but to encourage young Asian Americans to follow his example. To that end, a scholarship fund was created in his name to honor Asian American students who demonstrate:

    1. A commitment to voluntary service in the greater Las Vegas community.
    2. Leadership, citizenship, scholarship, service and character.
    3. High academic achievement and a plan to pursue a college education.
    4. Continuous work within the Asian community to promote ethnic and cultural identity.
    5. Participation in athletics and/or extracurricular school activities.

Each year, the Bill Endow Scholarship Foundation awards $2,000 scholarships to each of 15 deserving Asian American students. High school sophomores, juniors, seniors, and their parents, are invited to a workshop to learn what to do to qualify for this prestigious scholarship. There are two sessions to accommodate those who have scheduling conflicts. Please note, the workshop is a mandatory prerequisite in order to apply for the Bill Endow Scholarship.

  • College Workshop

    For Oct 25, 2011

    COLLEGE FAIR WORKSHOPS PERSENTED BY

THE 100 BLACK MEN OF LAS VEGAS, INC

In an effort to support Clark County School District’s graduation initiative and to increase the number of minority students who traditionally don’t apply for undergrad college scholarships, the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, Inc., will be presenting:

    “GETTING MONEY FOR COLLEGE”

This college fair/workshop will be offered four different evenings, on November 9th and 10th and November 16th and 17th, 2011, starting promptly at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m., at the 100 Academy of Excellence, which is located at 2431 Comstock Drive, North Las Vegas, NV 89032.

We, The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, strongly believe we can provide a wealth of community support to the educators of Las Vegas, and, more importantly, to every student who wants to attend college but may not have the financial means to pursue their future educational desires. The workshops will allow students and their families to obtain more information regarding scholarships, grants & information on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

As continued education commensurately improves one’s quality of life, we strongly encourage all junior and senior Afro-American students to attend one of these fairs.

  • 2012 Prudential Spirit Community Awards

    For Oct 05, 2011

We'd like to remind you about a unique opportunity for your school to celebrate the spirit of volunteerism throughout your student body. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards offers the chance for one (or more) of your students to win state and national awards.

I urge you to ask all of the students in your school who have taken part in community service activities over the past year to fill out an online application form at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit. Once the form has been completed, it must be submitted to you by November 1, 2011. Then, your school can select your most deserving applicants and recognize them as role models for all of the students in your school.

Finally, you can nominate your school's top youth volunteer for state-level honors by certifying his/her application by November 8, 2011. This student will receive the President's Volunteer Service Award (if he or she has contributed the minimum number of volunteer hours to qualify), and will become eligible to win an unrestricted award of $1,000 or more, a beautifully engraved medallion, and a fabulous trip with a parent to Washington, D.C., next spring.

Here is an application instruction sheet and informational flyer. If you have any questions or need a paper version of the application, please call toll-free 877-525-8491 or write to spirit@nassp.org.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards were created by the NASSP and Prudential Financial in 1995 to honor both middle level and high school students for outstanding acts of community service. Since then, nearly 100,000 young people have been honored at the local, state and national level. We hope we can honor one of your students this year!

    Sincerely,

    JoAnn Bartoletti
    Executive Director
